SLRSA Commences Regulatory Checks on Vehicles Operating in Mining Sites
The Sierra Leone Road Safety Authority (SLRSA) has begun an enforcement exercise aimed at ensuring vehicle licence compliance at mining locations across the country.
According to information published on the Authority’s official website on Wednesday 11th March, 2026, the exercise involves SLRSA officials conducting vehicle licence checks on vehicles operating within mining areas to verify compliance with road safety and regulatory requirements.
The operation is intended to confirm that vehicles used within mining communities possess valid licences and are operating in accordance with national transport regulations. Officials are also expected to inspect documentation and ensure that vehicles meet the operational standards required under the country’s road safety laws.
The Authority noted that the exercise forms part of its broader mandate to regulate road transport activities and promote safety on the nation’s roads. Under national road safety laws, vehicles operating on public roads must be properly registered and licensed to ensure accountability and compliance with safety standards.
Mining areas across Sierra Leone are known to experience heavy vehicular movement due to the transportation of minerals, equipment and workers. As a result, regulatory agencies often carry out targeted enforcement in these locations to ensure that vehicles involved in mining operations meet the necessary legal and safety requirements.
Authorities say the exercise will help reduce the use of unlicensed vehicles, improve compliance with transport regulations and strengthen road safety monitoring in mining communities.
