As He Calls For National Unity… Dr. Alie Kabba Storms Bonthe District
The leading presidential aspirant for the Sierra Leone People’s Party (SLPP) for the 2028 elections, Dr. Alie Kabba, made an unprecedented visit to Mattru Jong in Bonthe District, the heartland of the SLPP, on October 18, 2024. The former Minister of Foreign Affairs & International Cooperation and Ambassador & Permanent Representative to the United Nations and the 2018 National Campaign Chairman received a warm welcome upon arrival in Bonthe.
Dr. Kabba was greeted by Paramount Chief Alie Badara Sheriff III of Jong Chiefdom, representatives from the Eastern Descendants Union, the Traders Union, the Bike Riders Union, Bonthe District Disability Union, students from the Mattru School of Nursing, women’s groups, the Muslim community, parents of pupils he supported during the summer school period in Bonthe District, and hundreds of party supporters.
As a mark of traditional respect, Dr. Kabba visited the office of the Paramount Chief, where he was briefed on the work of local chiefs and the challenges they face. He expressed gratitude for the warm welcome and assured the Chief and his team that he would address their concerns. Dr. Kabba encouraged them to continue their efforts in fostering community cohesion and promised that an SLPP-led government would continue to support paramount chiefs and their councils across the country for effective service delivery.
After this meeting, Dr. Kabba attended Jumma prayer at the Mattru Central Mosque. Following the prayer, he was warmly welcomed by the Chief Imam and mosque leadership, who thanked him for his contributions to national development and pledged to keep him in their prayers for success in his political endeavors. Dr. Kabba expressed his appreciation for the warm reception and highlighted the important role of religious leaders in promoting community cohesion and peace. He also donated NLE20,000 towards the construction of the mosque and promised future support.
Following the prayer, Dr. Kabba visited the UBC Government Hospital in Mattru Jong to assess the facility and understand the challenges it faces in delivering quality health services. In a show of support for the health sector, he donated 21,000 medical gloves, hand sanitizers, and disinfectant materials for the medical staff. He committed to further investigating their challenges and providing future support.
Dr. Kabba also had a lunch discussion with the AK28 district executive for Bonthe District, which includes former and current councilors, teachers, nurses, and members of the working class. The executive is responsible for planning Dr. Kabba’s political activities in the district. In his opening statement, Dr. Kabba thanked the executive for their excellent work and encouraged them to continue supporting his vision and the efforts of the Sierra Leone People’s Party within the district.
The Chairman of the AK28 district executive, Councilor Usman Conteh, thanked Dr. Kabba for fulfilling his promise to visit the district following his Americian and European tours. He expressed his satisfaction with Dr. Kabba’s willingness to lead the SLPP in 2028 and to continue the good work of His Excellency President Bio. Councilor Conteh is a well-known and seasoned political figure in Bonthe District.
The highlight of Dr. Kabba’s visit was his formal admission as a member of the Easterners Descendants Union in Bonthe District, which comprises over 1,000 easterners living and working in the area. The union warmly welcomed him, considering him a political father figure for the East, and promised to support his vision for a better Sierra Leone under the SLPP.
The love and appreciation shown to Dr. Alie Kabba by hundreds of supporters of the Sierra Leone People’s Party and community members in Bonthe District, considered the heartland of the party, highlight his commitment to leading the party to State House in 2028.
Dr. Kabba was particularly moved by the vote of thanks delivered by a renowned SLPP district elder: “Tenki for help bring SLPP come back to power in 2018, dis na you payback time Sir and we dey fully behind you.”
