Attorney General Leads Talks With Liberian Police Chief on Cross Border Security

Attorney General and Minister of Justice Alpha Sesay has held a high-level meeting with Liberia’s Inspector General of Police, Gregory O. W. Coleman, in a renewed effort to strengthen cross border security cooperation between the two countries. The visit brought together senior police leaders from both sides and forms part of a four days engagement aimed at boosting joint operations and improving coordinated responses to threats along the shared border.

Inspector General Coleman arrived with a senior Liberian delegation and met with Sierra Leone’s Inspector General of Police, William Fayia Sellu, along with Assistant Inspectors General Sylvester Koroma and Senesie. Their discussions focused on improving intelligence and information sharing, enhancing joint patrols, and building better mechanisms for tackling emerging cross border challenges within the Mano River Union. Both delegations reaffirmed the importance of working together to promote stability and security across the sub region.

Attorney General Sesay welcomed the Liberian team and underscored Sierra Leone’s commitment to deeper security collaboration. He also briefed the delegation on the ongoing review of the Sierra Leone Police Forces Act of 1964, which proposes renaming the force to the “Sierra Leone Police Services” as part of broader constitutional reforms now under consideration.

The Attorney General’s office continues to play a central role in strengthening the rule of law and driving justice sector reforms. Recent initiatives include coordinating the Justice Sector Reform Strategy (2024–2030), supporting greater transparency through digital case management systems, and leading national efforts on anti-money laundering and counter terrorism financing. The Ministry has also worked closely with the Legal Aid Board and other institutions to expand access to justice, especially for vulnerable communities.

The courtesy visit by Liberia’s police leadership highlights the growing cooperation between the two countries and reinforces a shared commitment to building safer and more resilient border communities.
