Finance Minister To Present FY2025 Supplementary Budget To Parliament
The Ministry of Finance has announced that the Honourable Minister of Finance, Mr. Sheku Ahmed Fantamadi Bangura, will officially present the FY2025 Supplementary Government Budget and Statement of Economic and Financial Policies on Tuesday, July 29, 2025, at 10:00 a.m. The event will take place in the Chamber of Parliament of the Republic of Sierra Leone.
According to a public notice issued by the Ministry, all Vote Controllers, Heads of Ministries, Departments and Agencies (MDAs), State-Owned Enterprises, representatives from development partners and donor institutions, civil society organizations, community representatives, and members of the general public are invited to witness the presentation. Guests are expected to be seated by 9:30 a.m.
The supplementary budget is typically introduced mid-year to accommodate adjustments to government spending and revenue forecasts due to emerging priorities or unexpected economic challenges. For Sierra Leone, this year’s revised budget comes amid growing national concerns around inflation, revenue shortfalls, and the need for increased investment in health, education, and infrastructure.
Sierra Leone’s economy, like many others globally, has faced numerous shocks in recent years, including the lingering effects of the COVID-19 pandemic, the global rise in food and fuel prices, and disruptions related to climate change. In 2023 and 2024, the government launched the Medium-Term National Development Plan (MTNDP) and key economic reforms under the IMF Extended Credit Facility (ECF) programme, aiming to improve fiscal discipline and enhance domestic revenue mobilization.
The presentation of the FY2025 supplementary budget will also be an opportunity for the Finance Minister to reaffirm the government’s commitment to fiscal transparency and pro-poor spending. Analysts expect key highlights to include revised expenditure plans, updates on public debt management, and new measures to boost investment in rural development and youth employment.
The parliamentary presentation of the budget is not only a constitutional requirement but also a key element of accountability and democratic governance. It allows Parliament and the public to scrutinize government priorities, track implementation of approved budgets, and monitor the use of public funds.
The Ministry has encouraged broad participation from stakeholders, signaling its intention to maintain openness in the budgeting process. The event is expected to be broadcast live on national media and streamed on official government platforms to ensure wider public access.
