KKY Exposes Loopholes In EDSA Management
The Chairman of the Presidential Initiative For Climate Change, Renewable Energy And Food Security, Honorables Kandeh Yumkella, has exposed loopholes and the inefficiency of the Electricity Distribution and Supply Authority (EDSA) in managing electricity in the country.
Speaking at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation’s conference hall on Tuesday 2nd July 2024 during the government weekly press conference, Hon. Yumkella said that the current operational system of EDSA cannot solve the current electricity crisis in the country.
According to him, the inefficiency of EDSA has made it impossible to pay service providers as the company records 62% loss in its operation.
He said that EDSA only collects Four cents out of 10 cent they sell and there has never been a record of where the rest Six vent goes.
The frank talk of KKY, shows the blatant corruption and ineffectiveness at EDSA which if not timely addressed, will hinder trade and investment in the country.
“If we don’t fix EDSA we are dead. The whole economy would die including small businesses that depend on energy to survive. We will lose half a million dollars in the next few years,” the Energy expert warned.
He said that the Liberia Electricity Company has the capacity to pay the CLSG company in Ivory Coast Ten Million United States dollars while the EDSA cannot even honor One Hundred Thousand Dollars in payment to the same company. This he said shows the loopholes in the management of EDSA.
Chairman Yumkella said that it is not fair for people to harass the Ministry of Finance to pay service providers for electricity when customers pay for their services through EDSA.
