Sierra Leone Recalls Ambassador to Guinea

The Minister of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation, Alhaji Musa Timothy Kabba, has said that the Sierra Leone Ambassador to Guinea, His Excellency Alimamy Bangura, has been recalled following drug trafficking allegations in Guinea.
In a press release read by the Minister during an emergency press conference yesterday at the ministry’s headquarters, Alhaji Kabba said that his Ministry was informed on the 13th of January this year by Guinean authorities that, a utility vehicle belonging to the Sierra Leone mission in Guinea was impounded with seven suitcases of contraband substance tested to be cocaine.
Speaking on the recall of the ambassador and the Head of Chancery in Guinea, he said that they want to ascertain exactly what went wrong and to aid their Guinean counterparts in the investigation process.
He said that the Ambassador was however not on the scene when the said vehicle and the driver was intercepted.
The Minister clarified that, the Ambassador was never placed under house arrest as rumoured by the local press and he is discharging his responsibility at the Embassy.
Minister Kabba said that Sierra Leone has laws frowning at contraband substance and during the cause of investigation, anyone found wanting will be prosecuted within the ambit of the law without any political interference.
The inspector General of Police, William Fayia Sellu, said that they are also investigating the circumstances surrounding the transit of the said drug from Sierra Leone, and they will be checking their rooster to determine the officers in charge during such acts.
