SLRSA ED Vows to Ensure Robust Road Safety Enforcement During Festive Season

The Sierra Leone Road Safety Authority (SLRSA), in collaboration with the Sierra Leone Police (SLP), has officially launched a nationwide operational order aimed at strengthening road safety, enhancing traffic discipline, and reducing road-related incidents during the busy festive period.

The operation, unveiled during a joint parade at the SLRSA compound in Freetown, brought together key stakeholders from both institutions responsible for transport regulation, law enforcement, and public protection. The initiative underscores a renewed commitment by the SLRSA to ensure that the December season typically marked by increased movement of people and goods across the country is safe, orderly, and free from preventable accidents.

Speaking at the launch, the Executive Director of SLRSA, James Bagie Bio, emphasized that the movement of people drastically increases during the festive period, making road safety a significant challenge.

He disclosed that the operation commenced on 1st December 2025 and will run until 15th January 2026.

“It is the mandate of SLRSA to ensure road safety across the country, and that is why we are launching this operation to ensure that people, especially traders who have begun encroaching in areas not designated for selling, adhere to regulations. Many of the challenges we face as an Authority relate to the behaviour and attitude of people who disobey the law by parking where they shouldn’t, or turning public streets into vehicle repair garages,” he said.

Bio further noted that one of the reasons the institution transitioned from the Sierra Leone Road Transport Authority to the Sierra Leone Road Safety Authority was to effectively address all road safety concerns.

“During my tenure, I want to make sure the road is safe for every user. We have succeeded in addressing traffic issues at Lumley, and we will take further steps to ensure proper road safety nationwide,” he added.

The Director of Traffic Management at the Sierra Leone Police, Police Commissioner Abdul Moijueh, highlighted the importance of the joint safety order operation, describing it as a first-of-its-kind initiative designed to ensure the safety of everyone using the roads.

He noted that the Sierra Leone Police and the SLRSA have, over the years, worked collaboratively to promote road safety, emphasizing that the SLP is fully aligned with the new operational order.
