With A Zero Tolerance on Corruption… SLRSA Challenges Yada Williams Bribery Allegation

The Sierra Leone Road Safety Authority (SLRSA) has dismissed bribery allegations made by Lawyer Yada Hashim Williams against one of its Road Safety Corps Officers.

In a press release issued on November 11th, 2025, the Authority stated that the claim alleging an officer demanded a bribe of Two Hundred and Fifty Leones (NLE 250) during a traffic check along Wilkinson Road was “unsubstantiated and without proof.” The SLRSA clarified that the traffic stop was conducted lawfully after Mr. Williams’s driver was found operating an unregistered vehicle, a violation of Section 3(1) of the Road Traffic Act of 2007.

According to the release, the Authority promptly contacted Mr. Williams, requesting evidence to substantiate his bribery claims, but none has been provided to date. In contrast, SLRSA noted that it has supplied proof of payment for the fine levied on the unregistered vehicle. The Authority described the social media post by Mr. Williams as capable of damaging its reputation and the public trust in its officers.

The SLRSA emphasized that it upholds strict standards of integrity and accountability, maintaining a zero-tolerance policy on corruption. It stated that it has robust mechanisms in place to investigate any credible report of misconduct by its personnel.

The Authority called on Mr. Williams to withdraw his allegations and refrain from further unverified public statements that may mislead the public.

Beyond addressing the incident, the SLRSA highlighted its broader role in promoting road safety nationwide. Over the years, the Authority has introduced several reforms, including digital vehicle registration systems, the issuance of biometric driver’s licenses, and nationwide road safety awareness campaigns. It also conducts regular enforcement operations to curb road traffic offenses and collaborates with the Sierra Leone Police to reduce accidents and fatalities. These initiatives form part of SLRSA’s ongoing effort to ensure safe, orderly, and lawful road use across Sierra Leone.

The recent social media posting by a renowned lawyer Yada Williams has been strongly condemned and debunked by the Authority as it urges the lawyer to delete his post on social media platform.
