Babadi Kamara Elected SLFA President In Landslide Victory
Babadi Kamara has been officially elected president of the Sierra Leone Football Association (SLFA) at the Elective Congress held at the Gateway Hotel in Lungi. Kamara secured an overwhelming majority of 43 votes. His opponents, Aminata Bangura and Umaru Bah, received 11 and one vote respectively.
Kamara takes over from Thomas Daddy Brima, the former SLFA president, who was disqualified by the Ethics Committee for falsification and forgery of official documents, something that included conflicting birth dates, improperly processed police clearance, and multiple identities flagged by the Anti-Corruption Commission.
In tandem with the presidential election, other officials were chosen to lead the executive team. Alie Badara Tarawally was elected Vice President 1 after capturing 42 votes, defeating Harold Nat Johnson, who obtained 12. Prince Kai Saquee secured the Vice President 2 role with 41 votes, while Sorie Jalloh, Ramatulai Kamara, and Kweku Lisk were all elected as members of the SLFA Executive Committee.
The SLFA Elective Congress grew out of a delayed Ordinary Congress originally planned for early April 2025. That meeting was abruptly postponed when President Thomas Daddy Brima left the venue without notice, prompting Vice President 1 Harold Nat-Johnson to cite Article 37.3 of the SLFA Statutes, which requires the president’s presence for the meeting to be valid. With no word from Brima and rising tensions, the session was voided, pushing back essential preparations for the Elective Congress by several months.
The outgoing executive led by Brima had been under intense scrutiny over governance lapses and integrity issues. Brima’s disqualification and that of candidate Aminata Bangura highlighted operational failings within the organisation at a critical moment. The incoming team now faces the twin challenges of restoring trust in SLFA’s vetting process and realigning football administration with ethical standards. They must also repair relationships within the football community, accelerate reforms for internal transparency, and accelerate development of domestic competitions and infrastructure to reinvigorate the sport nationwide.
As SLFA president, Kamara will be responsible for setting strategic direction for football in Sierra Leone, overseeing national league and grassroots development, liaising with FIFA, CAF, government and other stakeholders, and ensuring compliance with statutes and ethics codes. He must also lead fundraising efforts, safeguard integrity in elections and competitions, and guide the Executive Committee in making decisions that promote long-term growth and professionalism across the sport.
