Emine Erdogan Mother and Child Hospital Project to Kick-off in Bo, Sierra Leone

As the Republic of Turkiye continues to strengthen its bilateral relations with Sierra Leone, the Emine Erdogan Mother and Child Hospital project in Bo, Southern Sierra Leone has seen a remarkable development,
On Monday 11th of May 2026, the Government of Sierra Leone and the Turkish Cooperation and Coordination Agency (TİKA) signed a protocol agreement for the construction of the Emine Erdogan Mother and Child Hospital.
The First Lady of Sierra Leone, Dr. Fatima Jabbi Bio has been the brain behind the much-important health facility as she engaged her counterpart Her Excellency Emine Erdogan, the First Lady of Turkiye.
According to Dr. Fatima, officilals from TIKA were hosted at the State House where they committed to support the construction of the proposed medical facility.
“This morning, on Monday, May 11, 2026, I hosted the Turkish Cooperation and Coordination Agency (TİKA) at State House for the official signing of the protocol for the construction of a state-of-the-art Emine Erdogan Mother and Child Hospital in Bo City. If we reflect on our meeting on the sidelines of the Zero Waste Forum in Istanbul, Türkiye, with Her Excellency Emine Erdogan, First Lady of the Republic of Türkiye, I pledged to the people of Sierra Leone that our discussions would yield tangible benefits for our country. Today marks the fulfillment of that commitment,” she stated.
The health project is expected to boost health service in that part of the country especially for women and children.
The news was welcomed by many Sierra Leoneans as Dr. Fatima is globally known for her advocacy for women and girls not just in Sierra Leone, but the world.
“As a mother of this nation, and for as long as I have the opportunity to advocate for and champion the empowerment and protection of women and girls, my work will not end here,” she said.
